How to Set Collaborative Goals for a Successful Year

Creating a dynamic team directly correlates with each individual IT role. You’re working together to solve problems, create innovative solutions, and develop new products, which requires multiple skill sets and diverse perspectives. Let’s be honest; this also comes with diverse personalities and sometimes competing goals.

If you’re aiming for a successful year and synergy across your team, here are a few tips to create realistic and cohesive goals.

Get Clarity On The Desired Outcome: Why Are We Here?

There should be a specific and clearly defined outcome you’re all working towards. While overarching goals like improving the system, product performance, or efficiency are good, think more contextually about what projects represent the benchmarks for making that happen. Frameworks like OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) or SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) help define big-picture outcomes.

Identify Key Roles: Play To Team Member Strengths

Does this project require specialist skills or technical expertise? Who are the stakeholders? Who will be the project manager, keeping everyone on track? Who is the final decision maker when questions or concerns arise? Everyone involved should have clearly defined roles and responsibilities and a designated person to check in with as needed.

Can You Hear Me Now? Establish Communication Channels

You’ve heard the three most important components of real estate (location, location, location), but we think when it comes to collaborative goal-setting, the three most important components are “communication, communication, communication.” Establish where, how, and how often communications should be sent, set a meeting rhythm, and ensure everyone can access any AI tools to help automate notifications and tracking. Recommended tools and resources for team goals and collaboration include ThriveSparrow, HaystackTeam, and Asana.
