Leadership at IDR doesn’t have anything to do with a title. As Mark Sanborn says “Anyone at any level can learn to be a leader and help to shape or influence the world around them.” At IDR, we are not only encouraged to become leaders; we are set-up to become leaders. Through our nationally ranked Leadership Development Program and Mentorship Program, we are able to grow as a team and as individuals who are looking to get better every day.
The Leadership Development Program includes a weekly forum where we discuss either a leadership article or chapter from a book. This is an optional program, but everyone is welcome to join. We believe that leadership is important in every single role within IDR. After all, part of our mission is to “Create Leaders.” We also learn how to better ourselves through personal accountability, mental toughness, focus, commitment, synergy, being proactive and much more.
I have personally benefited from the Leadership Development Program. In my experience, the more I am committed to bettering myself, the better I am at my job. You get out of the program what you put into it. The people who are most actively engaged in discussion and refer to the material throughout the week are the ones who grow the most.
Because we are investing in our leadership skills together, we can hold each other accountable to continuously implement what we discussed as a team. I love the synergy we all feel after our weekly discussions. It’s a great reminder that we are all here for the same purpose.
In addition to our weekly book club, we provide a Mentorship Program in which every employee has a weekly one-on-one meeting with their supervisor or a senior member of the team. This allows newer recruiters to have someone who is dedicated to their success while allowing the senior team members to practice their leadership skills.
Rory Vaden says, “Success is not owned, it is only rented – and the rent is due every day.” I stay committed to the program because I know I have to continue to invest in myself. I am thankful that IDR’s Leadership Development Program allows me to see my full potential and that I’m surrounded by team members who inspire and motivate me daily!
I highly encourage you and your team to get together for some mental fitness! Here are some great books in our collection: “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People,” “Leadership Secrets of the Rogue Warrior,” “Take the Stairs,” “The World’s Most Powerful Leadership Principle: How to Become a Servant Leader,” “How Did That Happen?,” “Principle Centered Leadership” and “The Oz Principle.”
