Some days as a recruiter or salesperson are infamous for a reason. This business can be a challenging one, and a day will come along that leaves you exhausted, humbled, and taxed. Here are three tips from the IDR team to help you push through the day the next time you take an L.
As a professional recruiter or salesperson, you are bound to succeed at your job most of the time. Accomplishing your goals, selling new contracts, helping your clients fill talent gaps, and connecting candidates with new roles are what you genuinely do every day. Never allow yourself to forget your effectiveness and triumphs. Recall your wins to memory and remember why you flourish at your job.
Ask yourself:
Be your own hype man and remember the best of times. They’re your fuel for the worst of times.
Not every candidate, client relationship, or placement will be a win. But with experience and thoughtful reflection, you can follow the breadcrumbs to see where the process or players should have changed.
Ask yourself:
The purpose of this exercise is to learn from what went wrong, not ruminate on your mistakes. Once you’ve gone down this list, let it go. Don’t focus on the negative. Take a few notes outlining what to look out for or what to double-check next time to improve outcomes in the future.
When the day is over, shift your evening schedule and carve out time for your favorite hobbies, people, and activities. Whatever that looks like, whether it’s a night on the town with friends, your favorite takeout, an escape room, an hour at the gym, or a candlelight bath at home, make time to feed your soul after a tough day.
Work/life balance is specifically designed for the bad days and to prevent burnout. There’s rarely an instance where a great day at work carries over into a bad day at home. Leave work challenges at work.
You don’t want to negatively influence your home environment or loved ones due to a disappointing day. It’s okay to feel your feelings and share your experience but take refuge in the comforts of home and be present with your friends and family.
When you work in a positive company culture and with a highly supportive team, facing and overcoming losses at work is much easier. We love building up our team here at IDR—maybe a new team is just what you need. Connect with us here and let’s explore a collaboration!
