As we head into a long weekend, we wanted this week’s suggestion to be one of our favorites. This week’s reading recommendation is for a book that is important for all businesses and crucial for businesses looking to take their organization to the next level. Good to Great is packed with information that has the power to transform how you do business.
Jim Collins uses Good to Great to explain “why some companies make the leap… and others don’t.” One of my favorite parts of the book is “the hedgehog.” This picture and explanation should be the cornerstone of any organization. There are three main parts:
1. What is your economic engine (how do you make money)?
2. What you are deeply passionate about?
3. What can you be the best in the world at?
*Note: 2 and 3 are often not the same thing, but they should work together.
This book is important to any organization that wants to be successful or, more specifically, any company that wants to go from a good company to a great company. Part of the book focuses specifically on some companies that have made that leap with the how-to’s of what they did.
Basically, “start with 1,435 good companies. Examine their performance over 40 years. Find the 11 companies that became great. Now here’s how you can do it too. Lessons on eggs, flywheels, hedgehogs, buses, and other essentials of business that can help you transform your company.” A powerful read.
